Bridge Closure on Race Day

Hammersmith Bridge will be closed to vehicles from 5 am on Saturday 13 March 2010 until 5 am on Monday 15 March 2010 - pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to use the bridge.

Severe traffic congestion can be expected on Putney and Chiswick Bridges, and in the Hammersmith area, and crews should allow extra time for the journey to the race.

Message from our new Race Co-ordinator

2010 sees the 70th Women’s Eights Head of the River Race and my second as Race Coordinator. It is time for us all to be proud of the thousands of stokes that women have rowed in the past and to look forward to making history in the future.
I can’t help but marvel at the success of the event and of women’s rowing as a whole. Last year over 2,600 competitors took up the challenge of racing in the largest women’s rowing race in the world, a far cry from the early days of the Head when the crews started line abreast.
On behalf of the 10 people who make up the race organising team and the 100 plus volunteers and marshals that help make the event happen on the day; have a great 70th race, be the best you can be and be proud of who you are.
